Children’s Ministry Director
Job Description
The Children’s Ministry Director must have a heart for children and a strong desire to help children take steps toward a stronger relationship with Jesus. The Director will serve the church by serving children (ages from newborn to grade 5) and families according to the purpose and vision of Anchor Community Church. The Director will work with and empower parents and volunteers to creatively develop effective discipleship opportunities that connect children and families to Jesus and each other. This is a part-time (15-20 hours per week) position at $25/hr.
Experience and Knowledge Required:
• BA/BS in relevant fields with minimum of 2 years of ministry serving experience
• Strong execution focus and attention to detail
• Strong work ethic, proactive and able to effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Highly developed communication skills; articulate verbally and in writing
• Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications
• Works well with others and within a team
• Creative and innovative
• Leadership background and experience serving with children and families
• Project management experience
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
General Children’s Ministry Oversight and Operations:
• Plan, develop, implement and execute all aspects of ACC children’s ministry.
• Disciple children in developing their spiritual growth and understanding of the gospel.
• Be a liaison between ACC and First Evangelical Church of Diamond Bar Children’s Ministry, according to partner agreement with FECDB.
• Utilize and maintain ministry records in Planning Center Online (volunteer scheduling, child and family profiles, Sunday/event check-ins, etc.) and Protect My Ministry (background checks and child safety training). If not already familiar with these programs, openness to learning how to use them required.
• Create, manage, monitor, and maintain the ACC children’s ministry budget, including purchasing and expense tracking.
• Ongoing contact with children, parents, staff, and leaders.
• Be an advocate for children and educate our congregation about the hopes, concerns and needs of children at ACC and our community.
• Formulate ACC children’s ministry facility standards for existing Sunday meeting location and any future new location(s).
• Help develop and maintain all child safety policies and security standards.
• Oversee and/or participate in special event planning to include, but not limited to, Christmas song performance, joint Vacation Bible School with FECDB, and ministry volunteer appreciation.
• Oversee quality of service and function of Sunday children’s ministry program.
ACC Children’s Ministry Volunteers
• Recruit and train ACC children’s ministry volunteers who work with children in all aspects of the ministry and ensure adequate support and adult to children ratios.
• Complete all steps of vetting and onboarding new volunteers, including receiving and reviewing completed applications, interviewing prospective volunteers, contacting references, ensuring completion of background checks (PMM/LiveScan) and child safety/abuse prevention training, and accompanying/supervising during first few Sundays of serving to train them on processes and protocols for the ministry.
• Develop training processes for volunteers and continue to research and facilitate training resources to better equip volunteers.
• Plan and lead team meetings at least once per quarter to touch base with volunteers, communicate updates, provide space for feedback and additional training, and conduct team-building activities.
Curriculum
• Utilize Bible Studies for Life curriculum to provide teaching for Sunday children’s program.
• Continue to evaluate current curriculum and research other options to ascertain fit with ACC teaching goals and doctrinal standards, and make changes as needed.
• Organize curriculum materials to be easily utilized by volunteers on Sundays; clean out old supplies when no longer needed.
• Supplement or adjust lesson plans/activities as needed to fit ACC children’s needs.
Communication and Care
• Communicate in a timely manner (24-48 hour) and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, group chats, Discord, etc.). Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.
• Create and prepare monthly communications for ACC children’s ministry team members.
• Create and prepare monthly communications for ACC children’s ministry parents.
• Pray regularly for all ACC children’s ministry participants (children, parents, and other family members).
• Provide direct spiritual support/care to children/families as needed for special care situations.
Leadership & Development
• Participate in continuing education, events and training opportunities.
• Conduct research of other churches regarding their approach to ministry.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Physical Demands:
• The ability and willingness to drive their personal vehicle to transport ministry items to and from the Sunday worship location and other event locations as needed
• The ability to lift large/heavy objects up to 50lbs.
Spiritual Expectations:
• To be a committed member of Anchor Community Church, which includes regular financial giving, regular participation in a community group, and consistent attendance in Sunday worship (as reasonably feasible in conjunction with job responsibilities).
• Community Groups (Acts 20:20) - Community Groups are at the heart of ACC. Real life change happens in the context of relationships – small groups. You are expected to participate in a community group on a regular basis to help foster community and accountability for your own and others’ spiritual growth. Being in community also contributes to better relationships with the volunteers on your team.
• Attending Sunday Worship Service (Hebrews 10:25, 2 Timothy 2:15, Luke 10:38-42) - Your Spiritual Growth is the number one priority. What you do as part of the ACC staff team should be fueled by your ongoing spiritual development. Work can never take a backseat to worship. Worship and community group participation are non-negotiable for all ACC staff members and ministry team leaders.
